Motel/Hotel Assistance for CalWORKS-Eligible Families Experiencing Homelessness
As a result of a federal disaster designation due to COVID-19, CalWORKs-eligible persons experiencing homelessness may be eligible for motel/hotel assistance regardless of whether they have received such assistance through CalWORKs during the last 12 months.
To qualify for the assistance, families must:
- Be eligible or apparently eligible for CalWORKs
- Be experiencing homelessness
- Have less than $100 in resources
The program provides $85 per night for a family of four, plus an additional $15 for each additional family member up to a maximum of $145 per night, for a maximum of 16 nights.
So, for example, a family of five would receive a nightly amount of $100 while a family of six would receive a nightly amount of $115.
Funds are placed on families’ EBT cards the same day the application is completed.
